AK 48 crane duo dismantles wind turbine
Two Böcker AK 48 truck cranes ensured safe working conditions at a height of about 20 m during the disassembly of a wind turbine weighing approximately 750 kg. At the Münster Waste Management facilities’ depot, a wind turbine visible from afar was dismantled from the chimney of the workshop building. The system, featuring a wind turbine approximately 4 m in diameter, had been installed in 2014 to generate energy and had since served as a landmark at the site. Due to the regular maintenance required – for which no suitable service provider was longer available – the wind turbine had to be dismantled.
Perfect teamwork at 20 m
A well-coordinated crane team was deployed to ensure safe disassembly. The roofing company HaGo Dachtechnik from Nottuln used its own Böcker AK 48 during crane operation to reliably secure and lift the wind turbine during the work. At the same time, a second AK 48 truck crane from Böcker Rental Services was used in platform operation. In the extendable and rotatable PK 600-D access platform, the roofers were able to safely reach the correct working position to loosen the wind turbine’s bolts and connecting parts and prepare for disassembly step by step.
Load Securing and Access to Heights
The particular challenge lay in combining load securing with access at height. At a height where it was windy, the wind turbine first had to be stabilized before dismantling work could begin. While one truck crane held the component in place, the second AK 48 served as a full-fledged aerial work platform to provide access at height. This allowed the specialists to work directly and safely on the structure. The disassembly proceeded quickly, and shortly thereafter, the truck crane safely lifted the wind turbine off the chimney and placed it in the yard for transport.
Long range for heavy loads
The operation in Münster clearly demonstrates the versatility and performance of the Böcker AK 48 truck crane. It is designed for heavy payloads of up to 3 t (optionally 6 t) and achieves extension lengths of up to 49 m (optionally 52 m), enabling it to handle even unusual and heavy lifting operations. Thanks to the EasyLock system, the AK 48 can be converted from a crane to an aerial work platform in just a few simple steps. When combined with the large PK 600-D access platform, it is designed for a payload platform load of up to 600 kg, a range of up to 25.1 m, and a working height of up to 43.6 m. During operation, the basket can be hydraulically extended to a width of 3.5 m and rotated by +/- 220°. During the operation in Münster, the Böcker platform provided the technicians with a spacious work area and the necessary load capacity to safely transport tools, materials, and personnel directly to the work site.
Flexible use in any situation
The AK 48’s quick setup with self-levelling, compact outriggers, and innovative boom geometry were also major advantages. The crane can erect its boom at a 90° angle to the vehicle and, depending on the need, operate with the jib extended 180° or in the tower crane function. These capabilities facilitate working close to the facade and far beyond the building, load handling close to the crane, and horizontal telescoping. Thanks to its powerful hydraulic system, the AK 48 offers a hook speed of 60 m/min, an unlimited swivel range, and a jib that is extendible hydraulically under load. This allows both load movements and the positioning of the access platform during platform operation to be carried out precisely and efficiently.
In Münster, the seamless coordination between the two machines was particularly impressive: The AK 48 from HaGo handled the securing and removal of the wind turbine, while the rental crane from Böcker provided safe access at height for the dismantling work. The operation clearly demonstrated how flexible Böcker truck cranes are for demanding jobs, even beyond the normal day-to-day operations of a roofing company.
