AK 48 mobile crane brings movement to the roof

Theo Milte Bedachungs GmbH is renovating the flat roof of the Lago leisure pool in Gysenberg Park in Herne as part of an energy-efficient refurbishment. In the second construction phase of the renovation, which began in 2023, the Böcker AK 48 mobile crane handled the material logistics for a roof area of around 2,000 m2. Since mid-2024, the first crane of the new generation has been supporting the company from Castrop-Rauxel, particularly in large-scale residential and industrial construction projects.

During the extensive roof renovation above the saltwater and indoor pool area, the AK 48 made it easier to quickly demolish and rebuild the flat roof. Thanks to the high performance of the truck-mounted crane, all transport tasks could be carried out in the shortest possible time, in a resource-optimized and energy-saving manner. The efficient removal of the old material created space for a new sloping roof made of polystyrene with an insulation thickness of 240 mm and a multi-layer bituminous seal. After a large delivery of material, the crane lifted 160 m³ of insulation, among other things, which it transported onto the roof in 35 hoists. In a further 15 lifts, 800 kg pallets of welded sheeting were placed on the flat roof. Both the main boom and the strong aluminum jib telescope hydraulically with an attached load of up to 1,000 kg completely and very quickly.

A decisive advantage of the AK 48 is its outstanding reach. With a load of 1,000 kg, the crane achieves a reach of 28.50 m at a height of 30 m.This large outreach enables the material to be set down even in remote and difficult-to-access roof areas. At Lago, a roof area around 10 m wide had to be overcome in order to transport the building materials to a higher roof. Thanks to the crane, all the pallets reached their intended location directly without having to be moved or handled.Another highlight of the AK 48 is its endless 360° slewing range, which enables all slewing movements to be carried out in the shortest possible distance. With maximum support, the crane can lift its full payload in any direction, making work considerably easier.

In addition to its reach and lifting capacity, the AK 48 impresses with its outstanding speed. Its powerful hydraulics ensure that all crane functions are carried out particularly quickly and guarantee highly efficient work. The latest generation of control technology makes operating the AK 48 simple and safe.It includes reach preview during crane erection, automatic levelling, automatic rope tracking, limitation of the slewing and erection angle, automatic start-up of the tower crane function and the go-home function. With point-to-point travel, the crane always automatically moves to the same position when picking up the load on the ground and unloading it on the roof. This function saves a lot of time and makes operation easier, especially for large material deliveries such as the roof renovation of the Lagos. The AK 48 carried out a total of 50 lifting operations in less than four hours in one morning, so that the roofers were able to start the re-roofing work quickly.
