Rack and pinion hoists support modernization of Zurich University

In 1978, the Irchel campus of the University of Zurich opened its doors to students and researchers. After almost 50 years of operation, the site is in considerable need of renewal and is currently undergoing fundamental modernization and expansion. One component is the renovations of three buildings that will be used temporarily by Zurich cantonal schools while they in turn repair their respective school buildings.

In order to prepare the existing buildings for interim student use one after the other, pollutant remediation, upgrading work with regard to earthquake and fire protection, and interior finishing of the premises with classrooms and a cafeteria will be carried out. Böll AG from Regensdorf in Switzerland will provide the construction site equipment for the delivery and removal of the various building materials during the refurbishment works. Two Böcker rack and pinion hoists of the model Super-Lift MX 2024 take over the logistics from the ground level to the individual floors. Configured as dual-mast lift, the transport platforms access four and six loading bay doors in Zurich offering a high loading capacity of up to 1,700 kg per trip. With a material transport speed of 24 m/min, all construction materials, tools and materials for the renovation work reach the heights quickly. At the ground station, an exit ramp ensures convenient access, while at the loading points of the floors, lightweight and easy-to-install sliding gates secure access to the platform.

Variability through modular platform concept

In everyday construction site use, the Super-Lift MX series impresses with a highly variable modular design of the transport platform. In Zurich, the largest elevator variant is used as a load-through platform, which with internal dimensions of 5.10 x 1.40 m offers a particularly large amount of space for transporting construction materials and people. By combining different platform modules, the MX 2024 can be adapted to suit specific projects and reaches a lifting height of 200 m with a maximum capacity of 2,000 kg. The basic unit can be flexibly supplemented with exit ramps, sliding gates or space-saving swing gates as well as closing walls and adapted to the respective conditions on site.

Thanks to the high quality and durability of the hot-dip galvanized, robust base unit and the triangular steel masts with captive connecting bolts, the construction hoist has reliably accompanied Böll AG on various construction sites for years. As a dual-mast lift, it offers the highest performance values and is thus the ideal transport platform for all demanding projects.

Simple operation and precise floor control

Thanks to its economical automatic control system, the Super-Lift MX 2024 construction lift can be controlled from both the cabin and the ground station without manual switching. The floors are approached via switch gates, so that each floor gate is always approached precisely and without height differences. In addition, the MX 2024 has a diagnostic function with display of the operating states. The control system monitors all limit switches and visualizes error information, such as an unclosed loading bay door, directly on the display.

The access control to the transport platform is optionally controlled by the Böcker Web-Key access system by means of card control and special card releases, including a possible blocking in case of card loss. The usage data and times of the platform can be evaluated via the system, providing the operator with an exact overview of the utilization.
