On construction sites with large roof areas and limited access around the building, material transport is a challenge. With the support of a Böcker crane, demolition and the lifting of new building materials can be carried out efficiently and effortlessly. Just like when renovating the roof of a family house in Holzhausen-Externsteine, Germany. The large pitched roof of the old building from 1905 was completely modernised. Tonnes of material had to be moved onto the 500 m2 roof area. From dismantling to re-roofing, Dächer von Hunold GmbH & Co. KG from Detmold carried out all the work with its AK 46 truck crane, which took the strain off the roofers on site and handled the heavy material transport with reaches of up to 30 m to the rear of the roof.
During the entire renovation period, the Böcker mobile crane stood on ground-protecting drive-on mats on the lawn in the front yard. The large lift of its front outriggers of up to 85 cm perfectly compensated for the slope of the terrain. Optimally positioned with the rear facing the building and supported at full width, the crane reached all parts of the roof with its long rear outreach.
Material transport from demolition to new roofing
The AK 46 was an essential assistant from the very beginning of the construction site set-up. It lifted a 2.8 tonne box trailer onto the site, which housed the mobile workshop for the tradesmen during the renovation. The crane also took over the efficient unloading and distribution of the material in hard-to-reach places around the house to minimise the distances during the construction work.
The roofing company carried out all the demolition work conveniently with the AK 46. Old tiles, insulation and battens were removed from the roof directly into a container. When demolishing the side roof surface, the crane telescoped 21 m high above the roof ridge and transported around 750 kg of roof tiles in the tipper basket from a distance of 28 m per load. It then used the pallet fork to lift the 8 cm thick PU insulation boards onto the lower roof surface above the living area. The timber for the doubling in the upper area, the underlay, the new battens and the tiles for the new roofing were also transported to their installation location as quickly as possible.
Mobile crane with enormous outreach and lifting capacity
For the new roofing, the crane scored with its high payload capacity and lifted the tiles on the pallet to the front roof area without having to redistribute them. Thomas Potthast, master roofer and Managing Director of Dächer von Hunold, emphasises: "The AK 46 lifts the fully loaded pallet weighing around 900 kg up to 22 m high and 26 m far onto the roof so that we can remove the tiles directly from the pallet. This means we only have to lift once and work very efficiently. Using the crane saves us an enormous amount of time during demolition and the entire re-roofing process."
